This article shows you the path of the G503 WWII Jeep Speedometer Cable Routing and Connection
1. The WWII Jeep speedometer cable is a common piece that needs to be replaced on a common restore. |
2. Insert the cable into the back of the speedometer. Then run the other end of the cable out the firewall (shown in next image). Pull the cable all the way out and tighten the speedometer bracket into the dash. | |
3. The picture shows the speedometer cable which should be lubricated prior to connecting and routing. The inner speedometer cable can be pulled out of its casing in order to lube, but don't pull it out all the way. You should lube all but the top 12 inches next to the speedometer (Pete Silfven tip) with a light white lube. Any closer to the speedometer and the grease may work its way into the speedometer. |
4. After connecting the cable to the speedometer, run the cable out the firewall and locate the clip that holds the speedometer cable. Then run the remainder down to towards the transfer case as shown. Note: Early models had a bondstrap from the firewall, to the cable, 42, 43, up to sometime in Oct. 44 |
5. When you are down under your frame, you run your cable through the closest frame hole and back out to the transfer case and connect as shown. |
